Speak Dog, Speak!

I've been working on our original website Oyate Ta Olowan. We've been working on adding digital downloads to the site, but it's still a challenge. Oyate is a public radio series that we did on traditional Native American music. We did 52 half hour shows and traveled over 100,000 miles collecting music from all over the Americas. It was a while ago, but people still seem to love it, so we keep offering the shows for sale.

It's all a part of our little press Many Kites Press. Life is so amazing, and so full, but we keep on trucking. I hope things are going well for all of you, and that continue to create wonderful things. Later, Milt Lee

What to do after you eat the turkey?

What to do after you eat the turkey?

We had a wonderful time in Freeman, SD this year. Jamie’s 7 brothers and sisters were all there - with their families, so that means we had over 50 folks all eating turkey together. Nicci Walla - Jamie’s oldest daughter had a recipe for turkey that she told us was the best ever. And sure enough, it was!! It involved soaking it for a bunch of time in a brine that had a bunch of nice flavors, and it really was the best turkey we’ve had. The Lefsa wars continued but all of it seemed to get eaten so clearly not too many people care too much about whether the Lefsa is thick or thin. It’s probably all the butter and sugar that people really care about, so there you are. Anyway, I wanted to show what happens the day after thanksgiving - when it’s time to just mess around. This year it was a combination of things. Of course you have to play 31, but in the afternoon, before the drinking starts, you really need a few bead people, and also a few guns. I mean what would Thanksgiving be without shooting?

Jay, Ryan, Enric, Elbows, Sull, Michael, Cheryl, and many others have been working on SIAB for a bunch of time. It’s a collection of plugins that work with Wordpress. This is a double ended video I did with Jay for use in a speech I gave in Mississippi at the National Black Programming Consortium. For you techie types - note the quality of the video of me. It was shot with my new Xacti E1 which I really like. I think it’s pretty amazing.

This morning, I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce Lincoln. He’s one of (if not the) person behind the New Media Institute. I was invited to speak here, and I have to tell you - it’s scary as hell to be speaking in front of people such as Bruce. His depth of knowledge of education theory, the internet, and giving access to people of color is so far beyond anything that I could say, that I guess I’ll just stand up there with a mirror. Show the folks how cool they and sit down. Anyway, here’s a little interview I did with Bruce this morning. Hope you like it!

Today, I went to the National Black Programming Consortium New Media Institute in Jackson Mississippi. I took a train from Rapid City, and it was a new bullet train, so it only took - like 2 hrs. Very cool. I’ll be posting a bunch of stuff from here. I guess they want me to speak tomorrow night. Which is very scary, but there you.
