This summer, I had a chance to work with the folks at Ecospeed. They make an electric assist for recumbent bikes, and are they ever fun! You haven’t really riden a bike till you’ve riden a bike with motor. When you are headed uphill, or you just feel like flying - press the accelerator, and you are taking off.
The other thing that is so amazing is that you are doing your pocketbook and the planet a huge favor. Imagine not having to gas up at $ 4.00 a gallon (or more) - just so that you can go to the store, or pick up the mail, or just feel like messing around. The great thing about using an electric bike is that you can use electricity that could be produced by wind or solar, and the amount of energy it takes to move a 40 lb. bike is so much less than it’s ever going to be to move a 3000 lb. car.
I've been working on our original website

I’ve ridden a conventional electric assist bicycle manufactred by Chrysler. It was a dog. Portland OR where this kit is manufactured is a great place for electic assist because of the hills on the Northwest side. What most people how have not ridden in Portland don’t realize is there is a great bike path - paved - that follows the Interstate from Vancouver Washington almost to Oregon City more than 20 miles. Portland is a great place to ride, as long as you hit it in the late spring to early summer when the roads are not wet.
I enjoyed the video and as an electric bike owner I appreciate the product. I have what many consider the best electric bike model , an Optibike and at present the only one in Portland Oregon.
