Today, I did my duty and was a poll worker for 4 hrs this morning. And to be honest, I was totally surprised. Now a little bit of background - I am what is known as a “yellow dog democrat” - I would vote for a yellow dog is he/or she was a democrat. So the truth is I don’t hang around many republicans - I just don’t have a lot to talk to them about. But this morning I was working a precinct that is about 70% republican, and I have to tell you, I was amazed. I think there were maybe 5 people out of the 260 voters that came through that I would have thought of as typical republicans. The rest of the folks were just regular working class folks. And yet they were registered republican. I was amazed at what I saw.

I've been working on our original website Oyate Ta Olowan. We've been working on adding digital downloads to the site, but it's still a challenge. Oyate is a public radio series that we did on traditional Native American music. We did 52 half hour shows and traveled over 100,000 miles collecting music from all over the Americas. It was a while ago, but people still seem to love it, so we keep offering the shows for sale. It's all a part of our little press Many Kites Press. Life is so amazing, and so full, but we keep on trucking. I hope things are going well for all of you, and that continue to create wonderful things. Later, Milt Lee

Milt, I was moved to tears by your video about election day and especially the thought you expressed about not being able to tell a Rep from a Dem and your wondering if you had been wrong all this time. It makes me think of my own prejudices and preconceptions about people and how I could be wrong about all that too. Thanks for your willingness to say that you could be wrong right out there in front of everyone. I could be too and I think that willingness to admit that brings us all closer to each other. It’s fun to be wrong and to break down our stereotypes. Wonderful blog; now you’ll have to excuse me. I’m going to explore some more of your creativity. Enjoyed watching voters with you; it was very moving to see people exercising their rights as citizens of (as Obama says) the United States of America.
It just goes to show how we must be so careful not to put people in boxes, even though the pattern-matcher in our brain is so “helpfully” try to do so. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Greens… we’re all just people.
Just a reminder- your daughter in Kansas is a republican, and pretty normal last time I checked. Ha Ha
My Thought is DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS all are grey in the dark. But put the light on in a voting bboth and quess what. REDS stay red and Blues are willing to be color blind.
I’ve met people I disagree with politically that are fine human beings. I’ve learned not to judge too harshly.
